Use AI tools across the software development lifecycle in a disciplined manner.
Review all AI-generated changes and maintain ownership of their quality before release.
Build extensible, maintainable and low-defect production-quality software.
Apply coding patterns, security best practices and reusable solutions.
Review peer code and tests for coverage, engineering standards, security risks and compliance.
Provide timely and coaching-oriented feedback during code reviews.
Explore and evaluate design alternatives.
Contribute to technical design documents.
Identify dependencies across teams and components.
Ensure designs address performance, scalability, resiliency and cost requirements.
Create test strategies and test plans that prevent regressions.
Cover security invariants and negative test cases.
Close testing coverage gaps and leverage AI for test automation.
Automate build and deployment processes toward zero-touch deployment.
Follow safe deployment and rollback practices.
Run experiments using feature flags and measure their impact.
Participate in on-call support as a DRI.
Mitigate production incidents within SLA using least-privilege access.
Conduct retrospectives and implement repair actions.
Improve telemetry, monitoring and troubleshooting guidance.
Software Engineer 2 engineers are expected to contribute to technical design rather than only implement predefined tasks. This includes evaluating different design approaches and helping document technical decisions.
Designs should consider performance, scalability, resiliency and cost. Engineers must also recognize dependencies that cross team or component boundaries.
The role includes ownership of the test strategy for assigned work. Engineers are expected to create tests that prevent regressions and cover security-related conditions and negative scenarios.
Another responsibility is identifying and closing coverage gaps. AI can be used to help automate testing, but the engineer remains responsible for the resulting quality.
As a live-site engineer, the candidate may serve as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) during production incidents. This means taking ownership of incident response and coordinating the necessary actions to restore service.
The role emphasizes least-privilege access when handling production incidents, as well as post-incident retrospectives and repair actions. Improving telemetry, monitoring and troubleshooting documentation is also part of the responsibility.
