Key Responsibilities

  • As a Data Science Intern at Microsoft, you will leverage statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and data exploration methods to generate actionable business and product insights.

  • Formulate analytical and machine learning approaches to solve business problems using well-defined algorithms and structured/unstructured data sources.
  • Incorporate product functionality and customer usage perspectives to frame complex data science problems within business contexts.
  • Utilize advanced data exploration techniques to discover emerging trends, validate data limitations, and propose new research questions within your product area.
  • Interpret experimental results, validate statistical methodologies, and continuously monitor model performance to drive continuous product iterations.
  • Engage with peer stakeholders, engineers, and product managers to produce clear, compelling insights that directly influence product features and user experience improvements.
  • Participate in technical peer review processes, act on constructive feedback, and adopt innovative algorithms and data science tools to maximize work impact.

Skills & Eligibility

  • Currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of academic study remaining following the completion of the internship program.
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree (M.Sc, MA, M.Tech, MS) in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong foundation in statistical inference, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modeling techniques.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and programming tools (such as Python, R, SQL, PyTorch, or Azure ML).
  • Ability to translate complex statistical outputs into actionable, business-focused insights.
  • Strong collaborative, communication, and problem-solving skills to work effectively in cross-functional agile teams.
