  • Software Engineer, Intern:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of computer science concepts.
  • Some experience and familiarity with programming through coursework, personal projects, or other practical experience.
  • Experience participating in previous internships or multi-person projects.
  • Open-source contributions or other collaborative projects demonstrating the ability to receive and incorporate feedback are also relevant.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems through independent research, mentorship, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Stripe primarily works with several programming languages, including:
  • Knowledge of one specific language is not necessarily required. Stripe indicates that strong programming fundamentals and general computer science knowledge are more important, as new programming languages can be learned.
  • At least 2 years of university education, or equivalent work experience.
  • Specialized knowledge in one or more technical areas combined with broader software engineering knowledge.
  • Understanding of frontend technologies and basic understanding of how backend services process HTTP requests.
  • Experience writing high-quality pull requests with appropriate test coverage.
  • Understanding of software testing and writing reliable code with minimal defects.
  • Ability to navigate and work within unfamiliar codebases involving multiple programming languages.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical work to stakeholders, team members, and other engineers.

  • 3. Object-Oriented Programming: Understand classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction, and encapsulation.
  • 4. Software Testing: Learn unit testing, integration testing, test coverage, debugging, and writing reliable code.
  • 5. Git & Code Reviews: Understand Git, pull requests, branching, commits, and the basic code review process.
  • 6. Web Fundamentals: Candidates interested in web engineering should understand HTTP, REST APIs, frontend technologies, and how requests are handled by backend services.
