Job Description

  • As a NORP Resident, you will have a direct impact on the design and feature enhancements that keep Google’s systems running reliably at a global scale. You will ensure network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring performance, coordinating planned maintenance, and responding to connectivity challenges. This role requires a blend of hardware awareness and software skills, as you will be innovating with an evolving set of automation tools and technologies.
  • Throughout the two-year residency, you will collaborate with experienced Googlers to plan, deliver, and operate massive networking infrastructure. You will be encouraged to contribute creative solutions, such as introducing better automation tools or improving operational processes. The program emphasizes Scalability and Reliability , preparing you to transition into a permanent engineering or management function after your rotations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to both Network Engineering and Technical Program Management (TPM) roles.
  • Collaborate with global teams to plan and operate Google’s networking infrastructure.
  • Monitor network performance and respond to connectivity issues or outages.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tools and automation to streamline workflows.
  • Analyze network data to suggest design improvements and feature enhancements.
  • Participate in rotations across different engineering functions, from operations to architecture.
  • Ensure network safety and efficiency through proactive maintenance and hardware adjustments.

Skills & Eligibility

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience: Internship experience in network engineering, data centers, or system administration.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Strong grasp of TCP/IP, ARP, IP Tables, and Routing .
  • Systems: Experience with Unix/Linux systems administration.
  • Coding: Proficiency in Python, Shell Scripting, Java, or C/C++ .
  • Leadership: Ability to work in team environments with a focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
